Can I set HigherMe to automatically reject unqualified candidates?

by Shelby Burke

Yes! With our knock-out question feature, you are able to set HigherMe to automatically reject unqualified candidates! 😎✨

Oftentimes, employers ask specific questions which they consider to be deal-breakers. With HigherMe’s Knockout Questions, disqualifying applicants based on deal-breaking questions is easy and helps improve the overall housekeeping process of your applications page.

To get started, head over to your TEMPLATES page. Choose a template you’d like to add a knockout question to or create a new job template.

Continue by clicking into the JOB QUESTIONS tab. And click ADD QUESTION. Choose the SINGLE - CHOICE question type, write in your question, add the desired answer and then add the knockout answer.

For example, if the question for a delivery driver position asks “do you have reliable transportation?” and your desired answer is YES but the candidate selects “no”, they will automatically be disqualified from being an eligible hire for this position.

When candidates answer the question and choose the knockout answer, they will automatically be assigned a fit score of 0 and their status will update automatically to “auto-rejected”.

Auto reject is a system-only status, meaning if an employer makes a selection on the “Mark As” section, they can’t choose the auto-reject status. This helps ensure that we can separate which candidates were truly rejected by the system vs. a user.

The auto-reject status is still treated the same as “rejected” for all other dependencies, including. reporting.

To the candidate, these questions don't appear any different from any of the other questions in the flow. Even if a candidate answers “incorrectly” on a deal-breaker question, they will finish the application as they normally would.
